i know i'm asking alot, but i've been searching what seems an eternity for new or after market parts for 78/79 broncos. any help is appreciated greatly. i'd like to finish this project before i'm too old to drive.
Try www.autokrafters.com Also go to the previous message area "1990 Bronco Tailgates" and cruise through there, as there's some other good sites... I also like the 78-79 Broncs, they"re great... no smog hassles & tough as a tank ! Auto Krafters also sends out a good snail mail catalog... good luck...
I couldn't agree with you more. I have a 1978 Bronco that is in quite good shape and in process of being fully restored. Finding parts is a real trick. I would suggest that you do a search on "obsolete Ford parts". You will find several hits that might help. Also, look at K BAR S. They specilize in Bronco parts.
If, during your search, you find an external tire carrier for a 78, I would live to hear about it.

I just found this place and it's great. I've got a 78 Bronco also and am glad to find others, even if none of you are chicks too. I would love an external tire carrier and window motor, if anybody can mail me! We have lots of 77-79 F150 &F250 4wd parts and 351M engines and sources, but not much Bronco info yet. Does anyone know if other year toppers will fit on a 78? Thanks in advance!Lots of parts sources listed in back of 4-Wheel and Off-Road magazine.
I just removed the swing away spare tire carrier from my '79 Bronco. I thought it made too much racket. I would love to get ride of it. It is in pretty good shape. I live in central Illinois if you are interested.
I have a 79 Bronco and am currently building a 460 to throw in it. The 351M that is powering it at the moment is on it's last leg. I recently got out of the Marine Corps and drove it from California to Oklahoma with a car in tow. The beast just kept on a kicken. But to the questions before me. There are some aftermarket rear tire carriers out there and even specialized for tire size. You can find them in most four wheel drive magazines, but you are going to pay an arm and a leg for them. I'm trying to search every salvage yard this side of the Mississippi until I find one, I have heard that vans from the same era might have the same bolt pattern but I havn't been able to prove that theory yet. I would like to know if anyone out there has any input on where to find building information on 460's. Mine came out of a 70' Lincoln.
i don't know how much help this will be but try

DISGUY!!! Here is what a George did to his bronco, hope it helps, Al M:
I have a 86' Eddie B. Bronco that came with a 351w/C6, and I put a 78' 460/C6. I used L&L motor mounts. You also have to have a rear sump oil pan (like trucks have, my 460 came out of a Mercury, so I had to change the pan), and other that that its more or less a bolt in. All the wires hooked up, and with a little fabrication skill, all the belt driven accesories went back on. I don't know about the condition of the 460 your thinking about putting in, but mine needed total rebuilding (both engine and transmission), but that just let me build it the way I wanted to. Mine has about 9.5:1 compression ratio, a hopped up cam, a RV torque converter, and a shift kit in the valve body. Oh yea one other thing. A car C6 (or any car transmission) won't bolt to the transfer case. If you don't want to sell or reuse your old transmission for another project you can swipe the output shaft from the old transmission into the new one. Bad news is to get the output shaft out or put it in you have to disassymble the transmission compleatly, which is no big deal if your rebuilding it anyway, but otherwise it would be easyer to find a working transmission from a 4x4 Big block. The power is great, and the milage is about the same as the 351. Good luck with the swap. and if you have any questions I'd be happy to help, just throw an Email my way. George

I just put a 460 in my 79 bronco L&L and advance adapters make bolt in motor mounts. You have to get a rear sump pan with a dip stick in it and a new oil pick up tube and a main bearing bolt with the extra threads to hold the pick up tube in place. If you have a C-6 it will bolt up with no changes (you will need the 460 flywheel). For the exsaust it's either headers or you have to find a truck manifold for the passenger side a car wont work i tried i know i used the car manifold on the drivers side.(my motor was out of a 76 Merc)
I also had to get truck alt & p.s. brackets from a 460 truck(you can get these from L&L but they are way spendy).Hope this helps
