Shifting Problem
I have a 92 Explorer with 198,000 on the motor and 120,000 on the tranny. About 2 weeks ago the truck wouldn’t shift out of 1st gear for about 3 blocks. Now as time goes on it’s taking longer to shift.
It only happens after it’s been sitting. I have tried to let it warm up and drive it … same conclusion. Fluids are all at level.
I read it could be band adjustments, speed governor, torque converter or just a bad tranny.
After reading my problem any help in narrowing down the problem would be appreciated.
It is an A4LD with 120k, about the limit for this tranny.
You could try flush, filter, fresh fluid and band adjustment, check the modulator for fluid leakage and/or deteriorated vacuam hose.
