auto or standard
My Family is proof of this. Every auto, car or truck, I or my brothers have had failed or started to slip and shutter by the time we were done with it.
It's just that an auto transmission is far weeker than a stick, unless you put like $4k into one. As for being faster the auto is more consistent, but are you going to bracket race in your truck?
In order to out shift and auto all you need is a short shifter and a new clutch, a total for the very best stuff ~ $800.
The only reason i have a stick now is because it was dirt cheap, and i am about to change it over.
Auto, stick, 4%, 5%, whatever...it won't matter much unless you plan on beating the heck out of your truck...
Anyway back to the guy who started this thread...turbo spool has nothing to do with your transmission. If the turbo is your concern, you might look into the different types of aftermarket turbos that are available.
Mine is an auto with stock early '99 turbo and is one of the loudest turbos I have heard (on a daily commuter, that is).
Your main concern in looking at the '99 and '01 should be the condition of the trucks themselves.
