Shifting into reverse

I have a 93 bronco ,,,with the 5.8 and the E40d tranny,,,,when i shift into reverse from park or drive it takes about 3 or 4 seconds to shift into reverse and when it does it hits pretty hard,,,when i come out of reverse into neutral the rpms jump bout 200 and i can feel it shift a little hard as well ,,,,what could this possibly be ,,,any info will be greatly appreciated ,,,thanks

I think the first thing to do is check the fluid level and condition of the fluid, if it's not a nice reddish color and smells burn't, get it out of there. Change the filter and drain the torque converter as well. If it's not this, then I think you may have some real problems like the converter is shot. I believe these are known somewhat to be a weak link in an otherwise great truck-if you don't have an aux. tranny cooler, it may be worth the time and effort to install one. Heat is the number one killer of auto's. Sorry I can't help more than this as I have a C-6 myself. Chuck P.

I just went through the same problem with my 94'.The dealer I took it to tried a full on, HI-Tech (high priced)flush. No results, oh and by the way I change the fluids on my truck more often than most people get gas. The next time I brought it in they replaced the throttle positioning switch inside the tran. case. This ment replacing the gasket also (I had a fluid seep there anyway). This did the trick at a cost of, 125 dollars for the flush & Around 300 dollars for the TPS & Gasket
