Does anyone know .... of someone. puting a V-8 in a Bronco II
and If so can the 302 be put in place of the 2.9 v6 bolt right up to the
automatic tranny?
I WAS wondering if it can be done easiely....
ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED>> thanks Ron
302/5.0 will fit, but you'll need a C5 or C4 automatic with the right bellhousing on it to mate up to the engine and transfer case. You will want to consider spending the $$$ for an Atlas transfer case, though, as the BW 1350/1354 will probably not handle the abuse of a V-8.
Correct parts...
I already have a 302 and I have a automatic tranny....
I am not sure if the Transfercase will mate up with the tranny
I have .. because the tranny.. is an OLDER model..
and another thing....
this BRONCO has AC... and from the looks of it I dont think the 302
will fit with it having AC..
what do you think ?
is there any publications that will show pics of the conversion?
Check out this website for MRE. They offer great info on their website and offer a how-to book for sale. I bought the book ...... very little info in it that wasn't on their site .....FOR FREE. Don't waste your money on the book!! http://www.mre-books.com/ranger.html
There's also a message board there for Ranger/Bronco II swaps. http://www.mre-books.com/cgi-bin/tee...gine_Swap_Talk

I put a 302 in an 84 Bronco II. The C-5 that was used behind the 2.8 in the 84 Bronco II and 83 and 84 Ranger has a removable bell housing. It is almost the same tranny as the C-4 and shops rebuild the c-5 to c-4 spec's these days as the lock up c-5 converter is no longer available. They are pan fill auto's. They did make case fill c-4's that are considered stronger by some folks.
Are you going to keep it 4wd? What vehicle did your 302 and tranny come out of? Was it 2wd or 4wd? Dose it have a t-case with it?
The adapter or tail housing and out put shaft is what mates the tranny to the t-case. I never had any problems with the 1350 T-case. Pictures of Old Blue wheeling can be seen at: http://www.mappyjack.com/SchoPas.htm and http://www.mappyjack.com/BlkBear.htm and it had the 1350 T-case, c-5 rebuilt to c-4 specs, and an early 80's 302 and I had no problems with it. I have know others who have also used the 1350/1354 t-case for V-8 and 4.0 swaps with no problems. Atlas t-cases are cool and all but a doubler would cost less and work just as well for most folks.
As I posted on your other thread Advanced Adapters and James Duff both have V-8 conversion parts. They both have parts and info list on there web sites.
Hi Happy Jack... thanks so much for the info you have provided....
WOW I and My wife had a 1988 Bronco II

so getting back to the bronco II
I have that motor was rebuilt like 2 yrs ago.. runs great...
this bronco II has an automatic in it...and I was hoping it would bolt up.. so if not OK then I need to get another bell housing..
???? what about torgue converter and any other parts????

WOW those are some AWSOME PICS>>>> sure would have thought about taking pics like that when I owned my other BroncoII
some in the snow.. would have been cool to share with ya now.. lol
Ron
I am kind of confused. Why would you put a T-5 behind a 302, when the M5OD fits behind a 302? A friend of mine had a 91 fullsize bronco, and it had the Mazda 5spd...which is what my fiancee has in her 88 2.9. Why couldn't you just use that, instead of going to the trouble of putting a T-5?
I know the creator of this thread didn't say he wanted a manual, but that article link that was posted mentioned that.
I was mearly.. making a statement that I was hoping this B2 that I got...
was a manual... and it is not..
I WILL stay automatic.... as long as I can find the correct bellhousing. to bolt up...
NOW here is another Question.. any of you all know about the
FMX tranny they have the REMOVEABLE bell housings..
WOULD THAT WORK????
I have one of those trannies still
Ron
The auto tranny in your 88 BII would be an A4LD. They do not have a bellhousing and they were never used behind a v-8. They are way too week for that anyway. So the A4LD will not work with a SBF and you would not want it to anyway. You could just slip your engine and tranny in the BII and run it as a 2wd. If it has or will have a lot of HP you need to consider axle changes as well. If you want to keep 4wd then you have some choices. Advanced Adapters and I think James Duff has the tail housings and output shafts to mate a C-4 and AOD to t-case in your BII. Or you can go with a 4wd tranny and t-case out of a full size. The full size tranny and t-case may require frame mod though as the BII frame is a bit narrow. And you can always look for the C-5 from the early BII and Ranger and change the bell housing.
Is the tranny from the Maverick a c-4? If so does it have the 164 or 157 tooth flywheel and bell housing?
I have seen pics of folks who kept AC with a carbed SBF. I have to go to my other puter and find a pic of the air box mod that is required. My 84 with the 302 had a non AC heater box that I cut and used firglass to reshape so it would clear the passangers side valve cover.

Not to get off the subject but aren't there differences in the R1 and R2 M5OD's? The M5OD does not have a removable bell housing. So while the smaller M5OD that was put behind the 4.0 will fit behind the 2.9 and use the 1350/1354 t-case, the larger M5OD put in the full size would not only have clearence issues in the small little truck but there may not be a way to use the stock 1350/1354 t-case.

Again the question is are you going to run it in 2wd or 4wd. I don't know of any adapters to run the 1350 t-case with the FMX auto. If the FMX will fit behind your SBF then you could install it and run in 2wd I would think.
SORRY for not answereing that question..
I have been on here looking up parts and then chatting with you GUYS..
IT IS A 4X4... lol
and I would like to keep it that way.. EVEN thinking about if its possible..
if there is a KIT... that is.. TO put a STRAIGHT axle up front.. too..
I am really LOOKING INTO THIS AT ALL ANGLES..
I will be lifting the body... 3 or 4 inch I have seen both kits now..
prolly 4" and then lifting the chassis possably 6 sky jacker has that kit it looks like..
