Well i ask because ive looked on NAPA, and Summit and never find them for 65, just 66... I dont think I'll be pulling one from a junkyard though. I'd rather buy new and not have to question its internals.
i have the original heater core from my dads one owner 65 f100,i pulled it out and filled the holes in the firewall, have cleaned it up and painted it flat black,i guarantee it still works, get back to me if you are interested in it,if you want it we will work something out, also have the defrost vent hoses for it.good luck with whatever you do.clarkw123
FE, Have you purchased a new core yet? I don't want to appear to be peeing on Bill's parts book but when you go to the parts house check to see if the core offered is the same from 65-79.

Why do autoparts stores heater cores differ from Fords?
It's simple...the shape is different and the pipes are different. Ths allows "gypo" heater cores to fit a wider range of years.
Bill, it doesn't matter. Any idea when Ford built their last heater core???
John
If you have a heater (and everything did after 1966) you have a heater core. Yesterday, today, and tomorrow. If you are asking if Ford built heater cores, the answer is never. The cores are bought from suppliers. Originally when heaters hung under dashes, they were made to Ford specs by Southwind.
Next you'll be asking about the in-famous Ranco valves.
never arque with a dealership parts man, cause they'll hook you up with the wrong part. any way aftermarket heater core shows the same part number 399024 for 66 to 72 with demensions 6"x6"x2" with 5/8's tubes. i put it in 2 months ago works fine. got it from a local parts house cost about $28.00 i think. have a good holiday and be safe.

p.s. no offense on the dealership thing just going by past experiance sean it happen many times to fellow co workers they never learned.
never arque with a dealership parts man, cause they'll hook you up with the wrong part. I'll remember you said that. Just wait till you need a part number for something. There are 407,000 members on FTE. Guess how many are retired partsmen who are willing to take the time and make the effort to research parts questions, and also have the official Ford car and truck parts catalogs? This is a free service that everyone here can take advantage of. Well, almost everyone.Anyway, the aftermarket heater core shows the same part number 399024 for 66 to 72 with demensions 6"x6"x2" with 5/8's tubes. i put it in 2 months ago works fine. got it from a local parts house cost about $28.00 i think. have a good holiday and be safe. joe

I'm a retired dealership partsman, and to the best of my knowledge have never given out the wrong part on purpose..except once, and that was back in 1977.
Some wiseazz came to the parts counter and asked for an LTD roof emblem. When I asked him what year it was, he said..."they're all the same." So I sold him one for a 1971. He came back the next day..."Hey, you sold me the wrong one!" I said, "no, I sold you what you asked for..you said they were all the same' 'I knew they weren't, but didn't want to argue with you...and they aren't, as you found out.' 'Now you've learned a lesson...hopefully next time when someone asks you the year, you will tell them what is is."
