If W-NT installation disks are not available. It sounds like he should just buy a W-XP upgrade then borrow an old W-98 etc operating system disk from a friend. Use the W-98 disk to reformat and install 98 then use the purchased upgrade disk to format and install Windows XP.
I would borrow a windows cd and format and reinstall windows on your computer. I guess this would only be a good idea if you didnt need any information on your hard drive. If you do need some info maybe transfer it on a portable USB drive to get it off.
Definatly reformat though. After this kind of problem, the OS never seems to work the same.
Thanks all for your input. Not much has changed yet, but one of you just sent me a link for a Microsoft Toolbox that looks good. I'm at work now, so I burned it to CD and will try it when I get home.
There is a guy here at work who thinks he has a 2000 NT disk at home, so hopefully, I can reformat if I have to.
Thanks again for all of your help, and I'll keep you posted.
