exhausting

1977
F-150
with the 400m jk jk no m

anyways I want to dual my exhaust to 2.5" with side exits behind the rear wheels. I'm also going with glasspacks. Im going to do this while I have the bed off and while im installing my 4" lift. I just want to know what kit i should use. im thinkin u-fit dual kit by flowmaster. Also glasspacks...they're so many companies im havin a hard time deciding but just wanna know what size, length, and possibly brand i should use...im not worried about being to loud..hahaha. so any suggestions on how u dualed your truck would be nice

also sorry if this is the wrong place just thought it would be easier if people that have a truck like mine could make suggestions. instead of everyone

I've used glasspacks before, they tend to wear out and start crackling too soon. My 79 is running a 400, headers, and Hooker Aero Chambers that end just behind thecab. Not too loud, nice tone, even better when you gas it hard.

When I put headers and 2 1/4 duals with glass packs on my '73 2wd 390, I just had the local muffler shop custom bend the whole thing. Pipes, glass packs and install was all $200 - I thought that was a very good price and I didn't have to do a thing...

Right now, I just run Walker Dynomaxs. They are fairly quiet, and have a little rumble when you get on it. Same thing 2.5s in front of the rear wheels. I also had my system installed REALLY tight against the floorboard as high as I could get it. Ended up using a couple old heat shields from parts trucks to keep from heating the cab up in the summer. So far, so good.

The one thing about NON-OEM Ford Parts is that the companies that make things like Headers have their own Application charts.

If there isnt an application for a truck you have..then real world experience takes over in trying to retro fit something.

and That's where the FTE Exhaust forum comes in because those guys discuss Exhaust systems for all years of trucks that could possibly fit.

For what it's worth, if you're going to keep the truck for a while, I would look real hard at buying quality mufflers. All of the big name companies can provide you with quality mufflers. Some of the cheap glass packs out there will rot out in a year or two. I'm partial to the flowmasters because they are alumuinized welded units that last a long time. I would get the best mufflers that your budget will allow.

I've seen flowmaster rust out in a few years also.
If you don't live in an area where they throw salt on the roads, your muffler should last a while.

I live in a dry area and have 2 1/4" duals with 12" glass packs on my 77 F100 and it's had that exhaust for at least 5 years, and there is no sign of rust on the whole system.
Like 73Custom I had the work done at a local muffler shop for $180.
Have the exact same set up on my bronco for the same place for the same price.
They are both Very loud, and if you want to keep the cops off of you, you might want to think of 18" or even 24" glass packs.
