84 Rear Window Rattling Problem

I got a 84 xlt...the rear window seems to rattle alot with the window fully down. I've tried wedgeing paper,rubber,plastic,etc.. that didn't work.
I haven't actually looked in the tailgate at the mechanism...how is the glass mounted to mechanism?

I'm planning on taking the top of soon...i want to fix the rattling so it doen't drive me crazy driving around!!!!
thanks all

I doubt it is the window making the noise. The glass is held in with rivets to a channel and when you window is in the up position over 75% of it rides in a gasket. I would suspect you have other things loose. Press against the tailgate when it is closed and the window is up. Your latch pins may need to be adjusted. Open the tailgate panel and check the tightness of the handle, the window gears and the window channels. (While you are in there a light coating of oil inside the tailgate will help prevent/or slow down the rust... they all rust.)
