Driver's side hub...

I've haven't posted in a long time so I figured I'd stop in
to post a problem. After some light off-roading I heard a
couple clunks in my front hub area on the road home. The
locking hub was loose and shooting grease all over. I know
I tightened it last time I pulled it apart becuase I triple checked
it before my buddy and I left. That was almost 6 months ago too.

I so I pulled it apart and it doesn't look good. Looks like the axle
inside is not in the center of the axle housing. I took a comparison
picture of the passenger side which seem to work just fine and
makes no noise. See the pics and let me know what you guys think/
recommend. I guess I should just start taking it apart until I find more
broken pieaces besides my poor super winch hub that got grenaded by
my off center axle.

Man that don't look good. I'd say the hub bearings are shot and it has cooked that hub. Everything is going to be hurt by the heat. Sorry bot your luck!

Same thing happened to me, twice.
As you can see, the pressure wasn't applied evenly by the springs. One relocated itself and wouldn't lock the hub, so I basically had 2wd (open diff) Also, somehow the seal was broken and dirt/ mud particulate entered the hub, and effectively "degreased & disabled" the hub as a result.

Looks to me like the roller bearing in the spindle is toast, and the weight of the stub axle cooked your hub.

Help!

RawPower: that's just the 4x4 locking hub. Mine got destroyed because
the bearings in the hub went out. I have replaced those 4x4 hubs
before though. Honestly guys I'm not even sure where to start. I guess
I'll replace that hub like KO said. When you buy a hub does it come with
the bearings and rotor installed as one piece? Also what's that hollow
metal tube/shaft called that the axle stub rides in? Should there be
play in the axle stub? I can move it side to side.

Thanks for the help guys
KO glad to see you are still around. I don't see Captain or Pro anymore.

i only took pictures of the hub and the engagement gear, but the bearings were toast.
the "hollow tube" is the spindle,
I seriously doubt they come preassembled as you have to reverse install them,
mine had play, but not much.
Your bearings probably went out because you drove through muddy water and the fine particulate erroded your bearing grease and then your bearings. In order to prevent this, I would repack your bearings every now and then. One bearing takes 5 mins at most to pack PROPERLY. That doesn't mean just rolling them in grease. If you don't know how to do it, ask and I can explain & dig up a link...

ivan and pro got booted, unfortunately for the board, but as much as everyone misses their humor (more importantly their knowledge), they seem perfectly ok with the fact.

Last time I hit the major mud/water I pulled the assembly apart and cleaned
everything and repacked with grease. Maybe I wasn't thorough enough.
Either way those bearings are gone now
Thanks for the advice on to parts searching.
