A few months ago i finally got a motor into my old 78 f-150 4x4. I bought an 85 merc with a rebuilt 351w and installed it into my truck. The other day i came across a 94 ford f-150 2wd with a bad tranny and was able to buy the truck for 150 bucks. The motor in the truck runs good (it's a 351w). I would like to install the fuel injecton onto my motor.
What i was wondering is what am i going to have to do to make it work. Should i put the complete 94 motor into my truck or can i just put the top end on my rebuilt motor. Is there anything better about the 94 motor like heads or something.
I would also need to figure out a way to activate the kickdown as my truck has a c6 and the 94 is an e40d. Did ford make something that would work out of an older truck or will i have to build a kickdown cable?
Should the computer work ok or should i maybe find something out of a truck with a standard as the computer will probably always have a tranny code in it. Eventually i would like to up the power level, i was wondering if there is a maf upgrade kit so i can swap cams and heads?
Any tips or info is greatly appreciated. Thanx
well the easier way to go would to part out the 94 and use the money to buy an aftermarket fuel injection/throttle body kit from holley...its much easier to convert....less headaches and you will have the opportunity to adjust your rig via pc, not that expensive-like 900-1400 from jegs...and it bolts rite onto a four barrel intake...comes wit the whole kit n kaboodle....
I can't think of it off the top of my head, but if you look around (maybe Hemmings, Hot Rod Online, something of that nature) you should find what you need on the tranny end of things.
I think the 94 351W had the roller cam like the 5.0 Mustangs (took Ford forever to get higher lifter bores in those...). Can't think of too many differences though.
I'd be REALLY tempted to try to stick the AOD in your truck.
you could scour the junkyard for a truck with a fi engine and a c6...like late 80s, early 90s for the kickdown cable and brackets ....youll also have to modify the throttle linkage, id pretty much use the 94 engine because that is what the ecm is calibrated for, plus youll save time swapping over the timing cover,+ serpentine system...also, youll have to find a higher pressure fuel delivery system...fuel pumps, relays, return lines, etc
