Stolen Toolbox + Intense Anger = Solution

My tool box got ripped off again, 2nd time in 10 years. I usually chain it into the bed of my truck but lately I've been lazy.

Anyway, after having lost an awesome collection of tools, 10 years in the making, I decided to go with a locking in-the-bed tool box like I've wanted.

Problem is these things are expen$ive. $ 200.00 for a small one and I'd need at least two of 'em for all my junk.

I started looking around the local army surplus yard and found pallets of these "30 mike" boxes. I've seen 'em and used similar boxes before but I bought 2 of these for $ 22.00 each after determining the size tray and quantity I wanted.

with the help of a buddy I banged together some tool trays out of galvanized sheet metal I bought from home despot and made handles out of half inch conduit. Inside the box i welded rails for the trays to sit on made out of 1 inch by 2 inch angle.

these boxes are super tough and water tight, each box has an O-ring seal and an air tight sealing lid that i welded shut on one side to create a hinge. They are held in place by two 3/8 inch nut/bolts through the bed.

This is one pic. I have more but I cant seem to post more than 1 at a time in a post, so the rest of the pics are in my gallery, towards the end [IMG][/IMG]

Yep mikes make great things.. They are also good for poop baskets LOL.. We used em in Iraq quite a bit.. Along with ammo crates.. Makes a nice crapper..

Good to see them put to use.. I use to have some that I had in my toolbox for holding things.. Got rid of em since then.. Might need to grab some more..

First, sorry to hear about loosing your tools. I have had it happen before, and it plain SUCKS.

But your new setup looks good!!!
However, if you have your new setup bolted to the bed - get some security nuts for it. That way, unless a thief is sporting a 4" angle grinder or a gas axe, he can't get them.

consider buying a topper, they are usually a little harder to break into, or at least take more time to get in

sorry to hear about the theft, that def sucks

Sweet! The ammo cans are great for misc stuff. I carry my chains and binders around in them.

Looks like they work nicely. I'm looking for a toolbox myself and am not even going to entertain those cheaper thin aluminum one's. If I can't find a decent one, I will fabricate it myself from 1/4 inch diamond plate. Looks like you found your answer. Hopefully your things will stay put for the next 10 or more years.

Big F-

I mashed up the threads on the end of the bolts going through the bed. They'll have to cut or break the bolts off.

PHWELEE-

I was going to use aluminum, but due to expense and my amatuer status at bending sheetmetal I figured a premade can and sheetmetal drawers would have to do.

Aluminum DP would look nice though.
