I have 3 spd. C-6 auto. trans on my 86 BB 351W 5.8 HO 4x4, the problem is I have to pull up on the gas for the trans to shift into gear. Vacuum is ok.
The repair shops I've taken it to say it's possible 1st into 3rd problem and the problem costs $1000-$1400 for rebuilt trans.
Does anyone know if that sounds right and if so is the repair mean a "new" rebuilt trans?
If I need a new tranny, does anyone where I might find one for a resonable price?
Thanks in advance
First, you need to explain to us in a lil more detail exactly how the transmission shifts into any gear, at any given condition. If when you move the selector into drive, and, the trans. jumps into first right away, then, you pull away and you have to let off the gas in order for it to shift into second gear, i would blame the modulator if the vacuum sent to it is ok.Keep in mind that the kickdown rod must be operating properly. Also, does it shutter or slip in reverse ? If it does, then for sure you need a rebuild.

I had the same problem with my c-6 after having dropped it out. Vacum was fine and checked everything. Turned out that we had taken the modulator out and not put the little pin back inside the modulater. Worked like a champ after that. So I agree, look at the modulator before spending too much cash.
I have the same problem... but.. it was after I replaced the carb... I think the problem is that the Kickdown arm is not adjusted proberly.. this is hte linkage down to the tranny from the carb. There is a spring that holds in 'forward' if the spring is off or loose it will allow the arm to float therefore causing your problem...
Good Luck
