Very bad skip seemingly out of the blue.

Just a bit of info. My V10 has been pinging slight to moderate over the past few weeks. The truck seemed to be down on power. Especially on the low end.

Today on the way home all was normal. There was a car slowing down to take a left. I had to brake. I stepped on it a bit to pass him on the shoulder as he waited to take the left. Out of the blue the truck shook and fluttered. There was no power. Any degree of throttle and the truck shook and shook. There was a strange vibration every time I stepped on the gas. If I let off completely the truck smoothed out a bit but not totally. I drove it home and while idleing in the driveway you could hear and feel the miss in the engine. There was a very strong smell of sulfer being emitted from the cat.

The miss is so bad I cant drive it. There is no power and I am afraid of hurting something. Funny thing though, it never threw a check engine light.

The truck is going to the shop first thing monday for a looksee.

Any ideas what I/they might find?

Fuel filter is only a few months old.

Why the strong sulfer smell out of the cat.

could the convertor be plugged? Used to be that we'd see the internal, platinum coated structure break apart sometimes and then clog the convertor.

Does the oil smell like fuel ? I hope not , if one or more coils do not fire it could dump fuel down the pipe and overheat the cat, might make it smell.

Bad fuel pump or bad COP. There's a way to check the fuel line pressure while driving but I don't know it. A couple of searches for fuel pressure ought to find it.

Also, one BIG thing.

Since when you hit the brakes (and the power booster requires vacuum), check the vacuum hoses, ESPECIALLY the elbow upstream of the PCV valve.

Too coincidental when it was while braking...

The truck runs so much better. I don't mean its not skipping now better but I think that coil has been going for some time and finally gave it up completely. The truck has its low end power back. Know thinking back a few weeks the truck would act strange for second or two. My first thought was tranny because its seemed to "slip up" for a second. I believe that "slip" I felt was the the coil causing a intermittent skip.

Back to racing Hemi's again. I can take the tail out from between my legs. I will see tomorrow if the ping is still there.
