Is anyone using one of these? I've thought about getting one and wanted some feedback. I'm mostly interested in the gauage functions - temps, manifold pressure, load, etc.
I know the PCM in the X is not "true" OBDII, but is only OBDII communication compliant, so I'm not sure what monitoring capabilities I'll get. Accoring to the manufacturer, it woks with "ALL" 2001 models.
I use "AutoTap" which is a software to laptop scantool on my 01 X w/ V10. It actually queries the PCM and reports ALL known datapoints reported by the engine it is hooked up to - hundreds for the V10 BTW.
So, if you are trying to find out if the '01 V10 reports a particular datapoint, I can give you a definite yes or no. You can then confirm with ScanGauge that they display that specific datapoint value.
I have a Scan Gauge II in my Excursion. Two parameters do not work...fuel pressure & manifold pressure. Everything else, load, RPM, etc..all work fine.
I used the MGT Blend Mount. I liked it so much I put one in the Cobra too! Sold by MGT Motorsports, an advertiser here. (Great products, value and service by the way)

AutoTap does, along with some others including cylinder head temp!
AutoTap also works with Palm so if you already own a Palm, AutoTap+Palm might be a good way to get access to virtual gauge data that isn't available via ScanGauge - for about the same price (not including the Palm)?
I use my laptop - one display (external lcd) to drive DVD for the kids, and the laptop flip-open LCD for many guages and graphs from AutoTap. O'course this isn't a daily setup, only for long trips...
For my money, AutoTap + laptop (which I already had and would own anyway) is way more valuable than single "guages" and ScanGuage type gadgets if the data is already being reported by the PCM. Now if we could just get Ford to put in diff. sensors, better misfire reporting, engine oil temp sensors, pyro sensors, ....
You may also want to look at the MSD Dashhawk. I am currently working with the software engineers to get more parameters working on my 07 f350 but I can tell you that right now they have the following parameters working:
Engine Coolant Temp
Intake Air Temp
Intake Manifold Pressure
Mass Air Flow Sensor
Barometric Pressure
Engine Load
Trouble Codes
Run Time Since Engine Start
Distance With MIL ON
Warmups Since DTC Clear
Distance Since DTC Clear
RPM
Vehicle Speed
Fuel Level
Control Module Volts
Boost/Vacuum
Commanded EGR
EGR Error
Absolute Pedal Position D
Absolute Pedal Position E
Absolute Pedal Position F
I have a thread in the 6.0L forum that I am trying to keep up to date on what parameters are working so if it interests you you might want to keep an eye on that thread.
