Wondering if anyone knows where I could find new weld-on rear upper shock mounts for a 78 f250? One has twisted off the other is rusting through. The truck has the heavy duty full floating axle and heavy duty leafs.
Thanks!
The parts catalog doesn't show them as welded, but as bolted on, A PO may have welded them. The brackets are used on all 1973/79 F250 4WD; all 1973/79 F350's and 1973/79 F250 Crew Cabs. The brackets are obsolete from Ford, but here's the part number.
Those are big cast pieces, and I do not believe any companies are making them for the aftermarket. The part you described as rusting through, is it the bracket, or the frame? Usually the frame goes away before the shock mount.
These are easily made if you can't find any in a salvage yard.
Many later model trucks did use, and still use a similar mount. Just have to jump under a salvage truck and see if it can be used. Chances are it can. I have seen plenty under a veriety of trucks. Don't be afraid to look under other manufacturers too.
The frame is fine, it's the mounts that are toast. I can probably make my own out of 1/4" flatstock, but I just wanted to save some time and order them if I could. Up here in the land of the "salt season", anything at the yards is going to be rusted solid. Is there a good salvage supplier I could check with?
Thanks
Most autowreckers today are on a computer hotline. You can ask a local wrecker to run your request. If you can find a wrecker in the salt free Desert Southwest, rust shouldn't be an issue.
