2001 ranger check engine lite
my check engine lite came on today
i had my mechanic run a computer check
he said it could be the maf sensor i read on msm auto that it might be the egr
can anybody enlighten as to which i should check

We need to know the specific code(s) before we can help, as there are sever hundred things that can make that light come on. It should be in the format of P#### (Example: P0401 or P1420).
If your mechanic didn't supply you with this code, you can stop by a local autozone (or just about any other chain retail parts store) and they should pull the codes for you for free, just don't let them sell you anything until you reply here.
