Emmision Failure/ EGR?
I have a 90 full size with the 5.8L.....
Failed emmisions today, the NOX portion. Seems could be an egr valve or related problem. Here is what I did. I could not get the stem to move on the valve as I ran the rpm's up. I thought it was the valve. However after several checks around the engine, I found a broken vacuum line, seems it was going to the purge canister.
Does it make sense this could have been the problem? Anyone know how to really test this stupd thing ( egr and related controllers) so I don;t have to go out and waste money??

egr
take the egr off the manifold and disconnect it from the exhaust inlet pipe take the egr apart and make sure it is clean internally most of the time they are filled with carbon and prevent the valve from openning if it can't open it will not recirculate the exhaust gases back into the engine intake which lets the motor burn cooler which prevents high nox readings so clean egr valve
