i found a 5-speed tranny out of an '89 F-250 with a 460 for 80 bucks, in working condition. how much would it take to put this in my bronco? i know the bellhousing pattern is the same between 351m/400 and the 429/460, but would my transfer case bolt up to the 5-speed?
Do a search in this forum for 460 SWAP. The information is in a post that was done about 2 weeks ago. I dont remember all but I dont think it can be done...but then again...I could be wrong.
the bolt patterns for the bog blocks and small blocks are different, you would have to get an adapter plate special made, but that would be very hard because of the shape of the zf(the tranny you found) 's bellhousing shape is abnormal. i say you just get the 460 also and use that along with the zf transmission, i have that setup ready to go in my bronco, should be a blast
The t case will bolt up but I don't know which bronco you are installing this in? I will guess the 79 since it has the 400 motor in it.
If so then you need to fab a hydralic clutch set up for the ZF and the cross member will have to be fabbed along with some drive shaft work. Seeing how you have an early ZF your speedo will hook up just fine. I have a ZF that came from a truck with an electronic speedo and I need to find a way to get a speedo to work when I install the ZF.
