I have a 2002 F250 and I was driving yesterday and it just stalled. I let it sit on the side of the road and started it up again after a minute or so. I got back on the road and it did it again; several times until I made it home. Could this be the Cam Position Sensor? Any ideas? I got a grinding sound a couple of times trying to restart. Help would be appreciated. Thanks
I did not change it but I pulled it out and cleaned it. I then tried to start it and the starter solenoid started to smoke. So I went to get a new one and installed it and it started and ran for about 5 minutes and I thought I had it. No luck. So I tried to start it again and this time it would not start.Sounded like the alternator was gone. It worked me over pretty good so I thought I'd call it a day. I then went to lock the truck with the power lock and it would not go done. So I put the key in and now the battery/or batteries are dead. Any ideas!! I will pull the batteries out tommorrow and go from there. Katrina didn't stop me; this truck will not. Scratching my head in New Orleans.

To my knowledge, there is no cleaning procedure for the Cam Position Sensor. When they fail you just have to replace them $16.
If you cranked the truck long enough to cause the starter/solenoid to smoke then you could have damaged the starter or solenoid and run the batteries down.
Replace the CPS, charge the batteries and see if it will start right up. Hopefully you didn't fry the Starter/solenoid.
I bought the CPS and installed and charged my batteries. Went to crank it up and there was a nasty grinding sound. Is this the starter? Again this is a 2002 F250 7.3 liter turbo diesel. Advice is needed!
If it was not grinding before your truck quit then i would say yes it is the starter, especially since yesterday you said the starter/solenoid was smoking and you ran down the batteries with extended cranking. You could very well have cooked the starter and ruined it. Starters are only designed for very short operation periods, a matter of seconds. Long crank times on a starter produce huge amounts of heat, which can cook the starter and bearings.
I pulled the alternator and it was bad replaced it. I replaced the CPS. Started right up but now I pull the key out and it still runs. Could it be the MAP sensor? I just noticed the ABS light on. The computer could be screwy. This ABS light has not come on before.
Do you mean you turn the ignition switch to off, then pull the key out and the engine still runs or do you mean you pull the key out of the ignition with the ignition switch still in the run position?
