I'm confused.I read that the only difference between the 2 motors were the crank, rods, and pistons. They have the same bore. That should mean they share the same pistons. Also, they share the same rods. The only difference I have seen in my research is the stroke. If someone know for sure let me know, cause I'm getting conflicting info.
I don't think the pistons are the same. IIRC, the 360 is a 352 crank with 390 rods and different pistons. I think if 360 pistons were used with a 390 crank it would result in the piston being above the deck at TDC. Someone with more knowledge than me will jump in here hopefully.
Because of the shorted stroke in a 360 ford installed a longer rod. And the pistons were also different because of this. But Galaxie is right the 360,390 and 410s all had the same block. But do not use 360 rods with the longer strokes. I don't believe the geometry of the crank throw will be very good with the longer rods!!...... I built a 418 out of a 360 engine. I already had the 428 heavier rods and bought a brand new Scat 428 (3.980 Stroke) crank. All in a 12 sec truck!!.... Good luck..
