Question Shipping engines?

Hi,
How do you ship an engine? To save you the long story (which you can read here) I will summarize my engine problems. I recently had my engine rebuilt out of state and it died. I need to ship it to the rebuilder for warrantee work.

How do you ship an engine?
Do I need a special crate for it? Where do I get the crate?
Any idea of how much it costs?
Who can I ship it through? Fedex?
Any other things that I should consider?

Well, those are my questions so far. I may have more depending on the answers I get.

Thanks,

I had a rebuild shipped to me and it came blocked around the oil pan, strapped to a pallet and completely wrapped with plastic wrap. It arrived in perfect shape but would have felt better if it would have been at least framed around the motor. It had to be shipped about 500 miles and the cost was around $90, and that was a couple of years ago via a private trucking company delivering to me at my workplace that has truck access, forklifts, etc. I believe FedEx freight could do the same thing - give them a call.

FedEx freight will be able to transport the engine. I've used them a few times and they are pretty good. I don't always shop for price tho. These guys are right you'll need a sturdy pallet. Build off of that and use heavy and thick wood for the base. Some of the better builders use a metal stand or big plastic container. Where ever the engine is shipped from/and back to you.. you'll need access to a "dock" and forklift or pallet jack. Once wrapped and secure I'd even maybe box it in for protection. That's a Sh***y situation to be in.....good luck!
