Help! Ford F350! Help!

Hi,

I`m Joerg from Germany. I bought in the end of last year a Ford F350 Dually from 1989 with 7,3l Diesel engine, ATS Turbo and automatic transmission (E40D) . With the automatic transmission I have a big problem. It change the gears from 1 to 3 and in the overdrive, but it goes not down ( from 3 or 2 in 1) if you stop. It is only possible by manuell shifting with the gear selektor.
Do you have any idee?

I hope you can understand my bad english - soory I did my best .

Bye,
Bohne

If your transmission does not downshift and skips a gear going in forward. You most likely need a Overhaul or "rebuild" of the transmission, the shifting solenoids are probably bad too but check those or have them checked just to make sure. good luck

I forgot to write, that the transmission is just rebuild. The clutch, electrische valves and slidegate valve were exchanged (everything in a transmission framework place). Can it be a sensor?

A Ford factory shop manual is important...here is a website that has them: helminc.com

It would most likely not be a sensor because all that does is senses a movement of a part but it could happen to be that also. The shift solenoids are either bad or have bad pin continuity in the connectors and are not working in the proper order. Also the wires going to the connectors on either the transmission itself or prior the other connector are corroded n need to be replaced. Have somebody with a code reader non generic preferrably will help with diagnosing the transmission problems. check the connectors for corrosion too

Now I have a code reader for my truck. Two codes I can not eliminate:
- 23 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is out of range
- 29 insufficient input from the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)

Could anyone write me the correct position for the TPS, because the screw was damaged and didn`t know the korrekt position.
How I can test both sensors?

Thanks,
Bohne

Now I take the car back to my home and try it myself - the garage can`t help me.

The TPS sensor is now at min. 1,12V and max. 3,85V, I think this is ok. I measured the VSS ( E7FT-9E731-AB), it had have 1442 Ohm - that is not enough, or?

I read the codes again, and now I have (VSS not installed) P011 - sythem pass. What is the meaning? If I try to translate it in German, it is no mistake - it is like "everything OK" - is this true??
Thanks,
Bohne
