05 F350 PSD - Can it handle it?
I posted this in the misc, towing section. I was looking for some more feedback from Super Duty 6.0 owners.
This is my first post so please bear with me. Picking up my 07 Escalade Sportster 41 CKS tomarow. According to the specs the UVW is 14720, dry hitch wheight 3100 and GVWR is 20,000, exterior length 42 feet. I own a 2005 F350 SRW Crew Cab 6.0 PSD Longbed 4x4 with automatic transmission. It has stock 3.73 gears, 6 inch lift kit, 18 inch rims with 37x13.5 inch Pro Comp tires. I have the Edge with Attitude installed and the Banks 4'' turbo back exhaust. It came fully loaded with everythink except the moon roof. It has been the greatest truck I have ever owned. I absolutely love it. I have read the owners manual at least 10 times. I have looked up the tow capacity and I am aware of the MGVWR. I am starting to think I might be in over my head. I do not plan to load the trailer down with 5200 lbs of gear however I can see I can easily go over the maximum load for the truck if I just put 1500 lbs of gear in it. Of course the dealer says they sell these trailers to owners of trucks like mine all the time and have never had complaints. I am looking for thoughts/sugestions. I don't want to blow up my truck or damage it in anyway. I do have trailer towing experience, trading in my bumper pull 33 foot Prowler 320 DBHS. Thanks for any sugestions.

With that lift, I think you are pushing (if not exceeding) the limit for your truck. If you are going with it anyway, before you tow, install EGT, Tranny Temp, and Oil Temp gauges! At least you'll KNOW if you are going to exceed the temp limits and you'll be able to slow down/stop before you break something.
Retorque your turbo clamps before you tow too, I had the turbo hose blow off mine the 1st mountain I hit. Scared the livin' you know what out of us!!

You should also be aware that towing this with the Edge installed is really asking for trouble. Go down to the 6.0L forum (about halfway down on the main forum page) and do a search for Edge. You will see that many of the people running it have ended up with engine or transmission problems, some without towing anything.

I think your going to be exceeding your vehicle ratings, empty. I tow a 34' fifth with 2650# pin weight (trailer loaded). With a SC lg box, I sit at 6680 on the rear axle. Loaded trailer and truck has a GCW of 21k.
Your trailer is much larger and the dry pin weight is no batteries, no water, no propane. Once these things are loaded your pin weight will be more.
You may run into problems with the six inch lift and 37" tires trying to get the trailer level while towing and maintaining approx 6" of clearance between bed rails and the bottom of the trailer overhang.
I find the 3.73 gearing with stock 18" tires just adequate for my ~14k loaded trailer. Your running 37" tires with a far heavier trailer. I see transmission problems without running the Edge. Plus substandard performance.

You are definitely in over your head. It is time to upgrade the truck. No two ways about it. The current truck CAN pull it (though with the tires and 3.73 I'd already be worried), but can it do it SAFELY. Let's face it, you are at the limit before you even put anything on the trailer, not to mention in the truck (passengers, gear, hitch, etc.). That is a big honkin' trailer and you need a bigger truck. Especially if you're gonna be haulin' it around everywhere and not just moving it to a RV park and leaving it. As HuntsDucks said, the F-450 is what you're looking for, but even with that, it has to be "properly equipped". Good luck.

I agree with the others here. As it sits, you're truck should not be pulling that trailer, it is unsafe.
Per the 2005 SD owner's manual your max trailer weight is 11,000 pounds. You're almost 5000 pounds over that just by dry weight, before you add any water, cargo or propane.
At minimum you should have an F-350 DRW, even that would be borderline overloaded.

An RV'er with same trailer
Try contacting "Rapid" at the RV.net site. Appears they have the same trailer. See their signature below and a link to the forum.

My F-350 DRW has the 13000 GVWR package with 6.0 PSD, 4.10 with rear stabilizer bar, long bed, KR, Fx4, and I pull a Horton 7 Ton equipment trailer, bot new, de rated on title and equipment plate to 12,900 #. So my maximum total legal is 25,900#. Went from south of Atlanta, GA thru W.VA. thru W PA, up U. S Route 30 to Laurel Mountain. Payload, non commercial, as owner operator, loaded a T-180 Bob Cat with bucket and bob tach hoe attachment. Averaged about 10.5 mpg., 765 miles each way, only options, new billsteins in front, with a 10 foot 1/2" stainless steel chain on front bumper. My history also has an updated trailer brake controller. Weighed on Cat scales with full fuel, and spare parts and tools at 22,000#.
Probably as safe as any trip I have took. No problems. Power extraordinary. Used the tow/haul feature 100% of time. That actually is one of the best features in this vehicle as it acts as a Jake brake on down grades. I was thinking of an 08 F-350, but Ford got this one right, and I will just keep it.
Everyone has acronyms for weight allowed and carried, but with 22,000 on a bumper hitch, this truck stops on a dime, although it takes a fifty cent piece to spool up!
I hope your truck is as good as mine.
