intake opinions please

Do you think it is worth cutting out the plastic behind the grill, that covers the area right in front if the factory intake tube?

I have a 6637 filter on the truck now, but I left the first part of the stock air box in place.

I am thinking that on the highway i can get some extra cool air pushed in toward the filter.

Oh, yes, that is a very good idea. One that most of us here have done.
It's called the Zoodad mod.

Predetor(spelling?) makes a nice grille assembly that you install in the hole and it keeps rocks, bugs, and other debris out of the intake. Just make sure you order just the grill, they have a grill/filter kit for the stock air box too. Airfury is the name of that product. I am considdering this for a future mod.

FWIW, I don't run that grill and only one incident and that was extreme. I drove through some sort of insect hatch once and got a bunch of bugs inside that I had to clear out.
The radiator fared worst off though. What I really needed was a full front screen, not just a little grill for the hole.
