just picked up an 04 f-350 superduty, looking to mount a general lee 10 meter radio but have no room except on the hump. Does anyone have a radio mounted there and if so, what type of mount and where did you get it from. thanks.
Yup... truckers still use 'em. They're great for instantaneous traffic reports... You'll hear about wrecks and the like within minutes of them happening; Urban Traffic Reporting on the other methods mentioned usually takes at least half an hour to make the news, if it makes it at all.

How bout it east bound, hows it lookin over your shoulder... Any city kitties, local yocals, smokey bears or polar bears?
I need help with this too, my dad wants me to add one before our annual summer road trip because he has one in his rig and he thinks the FRS handhelds don't have the range of a CB. I will agree my motorola 7200's definately don't have the range they advertise...luck to get 2 miles out of them. My dad says to just get a hand held...
1. Are CBs better for range?
2. Will the hand held be any good?
3. Any suggestions would be appreciated (remeber I'd only be using it when traveling with dear ol' dad-no one else I travel with has a CB.)
Bearhunter - I looked at those as well... also looked at the JottoDesk model (which I actually preferred to the Havis - it's a similar idea but reversed side to side so that you have more mounting space on the left side instead - I'm already running a RAM laptop computer mount and it would make it difficult to access the right side of the Havis product. That will also put my CB closer at hand for those channel changes, and fine adjustments on SSB)... but what I ended up with for nearly the same money was another Havis product... I ordered and am waiting for delivery of the 3201 centre console to replace the OEM console. Gives me 19" of mounting space for radios, cup holders, switch plates or whatever... as well as a locking 13"x9" steel box.
It comes with the mounting kit and any blank faceplates to fill in what you're aren't using right away.
These trucks have NO OEM locking storage in the cab at all. 2 Glove boxes and a centre console and not one lock. The way I'm going to configure my console - I'll get 2 locking steel boxes - 9"x9" as well as already mentioned 13"x9". I'll be able to mount my Cobra 148GTL in the console, as well as 2 cup holders (that'll hold 2-32 oz size drinks), and a switch bracket that'll hold 7 labelled switches. It's more than what the dash bracket would have cost me, but the advantages make it worthwhile IMHO...
A word to anyone looking at the Havis dot com site for these consoles... if you go larger than the 30" long console (3011), you will either stick out behind your seats into the back floor space, or you will have to install it a little closer to the dash.... I plan on splitting the difference, to get the larger console with a front slant, and will stick out about an inch behind the captains seats...
