front pads

I change the pads on the ranger about every year or so maybe 15K miles. Ive always run Napa mid price ones. My trucks front rims are covered in black brake junk. Would switching to the expensive ceramic ones going to last longer or anything other than give me cleaner rims with less dust? I dont realy care about the dust on the rims its a work truck...Is there a brake pad i will get better mileage out of? I do mostly city driving in NYC so if that adds into the equation.. I heard the tell tale signs of a brake squeak so i figure ill be doing brakes in the next week or so its about the right mileage .. figure id ask if there was something better out there

Personnally, when it comes to doing the brakes, I'll go with genuine Ford parts. There's a couple of Ford parts dealer sponsors in the forum that give discounts for members. There's a recent thread that names them. I've got nothing against NAPA parts cause they're usually good, but the Ford part match the pads and rotor material for max wear and low contamination/deposits causing problems.

You never get something for nothing. Ceramix pads are harder, last longer, have very little dust, but the rotors suffer. Having said that, I still like the Ceramix. jd

I installed the NAPA mid-range pads and have a terrible squeeching noise when the brakes are applied. Can't speak yet to their wear life.

i have had that problem on my caravan what i do now as a matter of part of the job is to take a real light emery cloth like 400 grit and scuff the rotors a tad just a real little bit to get the shine off em then i clean em good with brake parts cleaner before putting the new pads on and i dont get any screech when applying the brakes. I was told its cause of a mirror finish on the rotors as the pads wear kinda polishing the rotors
hope that helps
