Cool I've worn out my horn switch

Hey guys. I tried posting this in the Super Duty forum, but the only response was to check the wiring for a short.

After 200,000 miles of honking at idiots, (remember the George Carlin line- "Anyone going faster than you is a maniac and anyone going slower is an idiot.") I have managed to break the switch on the horn. It started just laying itself on at random times, the last of which was when I was sitting in the garage having a beer. I pulled the relay, but I'd like to know if anyone has had the same problem and if so what did you do to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Andy

That happened to a friend of mines ford ranger, can't remember what he did though. I'll bet that all you need to do is get to the switch to clean the carbon off the contacts. Hard part is getting to the switch..... May want to disconnect the battery before going in there (airbags...).

you can ake you stering wheel apart,
disconnect the batteries and pull the airbag oit, you can test the switch or id say contacts and see if this is your problem, or problem beyound steering wheel, and shorting pads on steering weel are common, if im not mistaken they are part of the airbag, and not repairable, but i might be wrong, ( if you can get in there use some Contact Cleaner on the Q-Tip to clean it)
i hope this helped you a little,

Cool! Thanks for the input. I'll have to thumb through my big old fat manual tonight and see what I can find for removing the air bag.

I had that happen to me in my Subaru (with aftermarket horns) and it turned out that the relay itself was the problem. Clean contacts are always good, but if you have a spare relay handy you might try swapping to a known good one and see what happens.

easy, just disconnect batteries , and if you use mirror or look in the back of the steering wheel you should have 2-4 alan or torx bolts or phillips, dont know what ford used there, after you take the screws out(they might just stay there) you will pull the airbag out ,GENTLY you going to have one or two connectors there , unplug it and you all set, now start looking for your problem,
good luck and keep us posted
