The sticker on the truck claims that the epa rating for highway is "... between 27 and 34 mpg ..."
Just joking about testing the claim, but I really need a commuter vehicle that gets good gas milage because it feels like I drive all over hell and back every week.
Where did they get that sticker? http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calcu...umn=1&id=22887
Of course with the new 2008 mileage rating.........
Why would anyone buy a truck to save gas? Either buy a gas saver or buy a truck they don't come together in all my years of driving.
Example: my Mom's 2004 Buick Regal V6 3800. Just under 36 mpg all highway I drove right lane up to Boston and fast lane home. This is one of those samples where the size of the car matches the drivetrain and driving style.
Hey blueranger99, if its ok to ask, what did you give for your Ranger? I'm looking at getting a 2007 4x2 Reg cab 5 speed 4 cylinder for my commute.(75 miles rd trip a day) I'd like to get it for 12,000 or less but I hate dealing with salesmen. If you dont wanna say I understand.

Because your mom's Buick won't carry my tools like the ranger will ...
Not trying to be sarcastic, but my 99 ranger gets between 17 and 20 mpg regardless of city / highway ( unless I let it sits idling for long periods of time, which I try to avoid). Driving a vehicle that gets over 30 mpg will cut my fuel costs substantially. I chose the new ranger because I need some carrying capacity and I have had really good luck with the old one.
I'll post some pics Mon or Tues - have to borrow my friend's digital camera ...

Actually if you look close, the sticker should state something like "The EPA has determined that this vehicle type typically gets 27 to 34 mpg"
Basically this range is what a small 4 cylinder pickup should be expected to get, this way you can compare how this truck compares to others in its class.
My Dad's '96 Ranger has gotten as high as 28+ mpg. The 2.3L is a very efficient engine for these trucks, though a bit gutless. It is adequate, but don't expect to win any races.
