I see that some of you guys have used the AS
leveling kits. The ones on ebay currently don't
list AS. There are three styles.
Two part units with bolts and welds
Two part units with bolts and pressed in spacers
solid billet aluminium
They all claim 1-1.5 hrs installs.
What have you guys had the best luck with?
^^ That link is for all Autospring sales. They are the factory sales team. For my money, they have the highest quality kit on the market. Beware of cheap 'similar' builds.
^^ That is the one I went with. I read the bit about the pressed in spacers versus welded bolts. It makes sense because the bolts are grade 5 and they might be a little weaker, but really, the bolts are loaded in tension all the time and they still have a nice shoulder to hold the load. I was actually worried that the pressed in studs might pull out under heavy use. The aluminum vs steel is hardly any issue - the weight difference is minimal and most everything else under there is steel so corrosion isn't much different anyway.
I bought the Auto Spring 2 inch level for my 2004 XLT 4X4 and it has worked great....i took me about 1 1/2 hours to install the first side, then it only took me about 20 minutes to do the other side with the experience of one under my belt...just make sure that you have a breaker bar or some kind of leverage to help get the large bolt off....it is very very tight from the factory. Other than that...it is a great product...just make sure when you get it you keep a close eye on your tire wear...make sure you rotate your tires as much as possible!!!
I went with the 2.5" AS kit, but if I had to do it over again I would go with the 2" instead....I think the 2.5 might be a tad too high. Some guys say it made their truck's noses too high (compared to the back)and other said it didn't....mine is borderline, so I'll live with it. Don't forget to get an alignment after you install it...your toe will be out big time.
That is why i went with the 2" rather than 2.5, I tow a boat alot and i thought that if i went to a 2.5 that i would look like a dolphin diving out of the water while i was towing....i love the way mine looks with just 2"
I went with 2-1/2 mainly to clear larger tires, but hauling almost anything (a couple hundred pounds of mulch for example) makes the back sag down lower than the front...I am probably going to see what I can do to make some slightly larger lift blocks for the back, now) May go with a couple of air bags when I need to haul the really heavy stuff like firewood or dirt.
As for the install, mine was ~15-20 minutes per side, but credit that to air tools, pre-reading the instructions, plus a couple of great write-ups on this site.
I bought my 2.5 lift from CCM on Ebay. I installed it in 45 min. The quality is great and the price was 70$ U.S. Also I am hoping to by the add a leaf in the rear so that the truck wont sag so much when I get a couple hundred pounds in the back.
Check out the lifts from CCM you wont be dissapointed.
