10:1 is not that high. But, if you load it heavily, it will more than likely ping. If it came with 10:1 from the factory, it is probably tuned for it. The new engines are running10.5:1 and higher. jd

nope I've never had an LT1 ping on the stock 87 tune. yeah the newer LS1 engines are still even designed to run on regular. The main advantage to the LT1 is the fact it's reversed cooled, and it allows it to run higher compression and still use lower octane gas.

That's why there are companies making custom electronic ignition computers. They use MAF, RPM, TP and Nock sensors signals directly from sensors. Ignition timing charts are easy to ajust. These computers have 1 out port, that must by connected to TFI SP-out pin (SPOUT plug must be removed).

OBD-II ECMs are easy to tune up changing ignition timing charts.

last time I checked an ignition setup like so costs close to $800 if not more.
