New uppipes installed

Well I got the new uppipes all installed and the old ones had a lot of wear on them. What a pain in the a$$! I didnt notice that big of an improvement on max boost. Before I was struggling to see 28 psi and now I can see 30 psi. Where else can I have an exhaust leak? On the exhaust manifold itself? With stage 1s I have heard many people say they can peg their 35 psi gauge. I have a new 6637 sitting in the barn, had to order a new ebps tube cuz mine was too plugged to clean so thats going in. Any other Ideas guys?

Manifold gaskets? I hate to say this but i could hit 33psi with my stage 1's, then i dropped off to 30psi after my lift pump went out, fixed that and still was only at 30psi. Next day, turbinator crapped out on me. Maybe you have a fuel leak or a turbinator on the fritz? Good luck!

could be the manifolds. Also I would check real close for boost leaks. I heard one a few weeks talking about the intake housing leaking on the turbo. The snail shell like piece seals to the base plate with an o-ring he said that was leaking pretty good. You can build a pressure testing plug out of a PCV sewer pipe end cap of some sort and put an air fitting in it to pressurize everything then use soapy water to check for leaks.

I know what your talking about. I just replaced three sets of uppipes on three of our buses. Even on the bigger stuff there's very little room.

Do the exhaust manifolds have gaskets on them? Do they need gaskets? On the gassers that I have rebuilt I didnt use them. The block is sooty around the drivers manifold and I can hear a ticking sound. Anyone have part numbers and $$$?

no gaskets stock. and from experience if you put gaskets int here they will just blow out. chances are you have a broken bolt there. best thing to do is see if you can find it and remove it. Then you might get lucky and be able to replace the bolt and get it to seal. if not you need to take the manifold off and have it resurfaced flat then reinstall without gaskets. It will seal as long as the manifold is flat and the head isn't pitted. Rule of thumb is fi they didn't have gaskets stock then you don't put gaskets back on. gaskets stock then reinstall with gaskets.

Well, if it's anything like the broken bolts I removed from '64 Fairlane (I don't have it now, but that's another story) it involved a LOT of WD-40 and an "easy-out" kit.

Basically, the kit is a set of regular drill bits with a matched set of reverse-cut drill bits. Use a lot of WD-40 (over several hours or even overnight if you have the time), drill a hole with the regular drill bit, use the reverse-cut to grab the bolt from the inside, and with a little bit of luck, the broken bolt comes out.

its the pipe that starts at your engine block, down on both sides it captures all of the exhaust as it exits the engin and brings it up and arround to the turbo, (it is called up pipe because it goes up to turbo) The down the down pipe takes it down, and then it is out to the exhaust. the up pipe is usually the rusty looking pipe, from the heat abuse.

yep the up-pipe carries the exhaust from the manifolds up to the turbo. Then the down pipe caries the exhaust from the turbo to the exhuast system.

To remove the bolt you might get lucky (previous owner of my truck did) and the head just broke off and he was able to grip a tiny piece of the bolt and turn it out. other wire an easy out or bolt extractor kit may be needed. worst case take the whole manifold off to use a vise grip or something like that. I am just not sure there is room to get the manifold off with a stud still in there.

We sell the kits because the bolts are common to break. There are 4 PN# W300013 and 4 PN# W301640

Thanks, Bob
