they have been workin just fine until yesterday i turned them on and they didnt blink at all , not in the cluster , or on the truck .... wat could be the problem ... none of them work at all ... but the hazard lights work fine ... could it be the thang in the steerin wheel ? it dont click or nuttin , never has since i got the truck , i thank it might be wore out...
1. First check the fuse.
2. Then, check the flasher for the turn signals.
You can temporary use the emergency flasher can to check it.
3. It could be the blinker switch is bad as you say. Sometimes the wires bust, bends, gets corroded, plastic cracks or clip that holds it on comes off.
Unfortunately, you have to take the steering wheel off to check it. You'll need a steering wheel puller to do that so your smart to check all the other things first.
Since I have a puller, it's quick and easy for me to check.
Beware, it is tricky replacing the switch. Sometimes you have to trim the wires on the replacement to get them to set down properly. In my case I had to drill and tap the mounting post to keep the switch down on it and in place. The stupid clip they give you in my case wouldn't hold it down on the post. You'll understand when you get there.
You may also need some extra wire and crimping tools.
Just take your time.
The saving grace is that the switch only cost like $16 at your local parts store. Online or Ford sell them for $25-75. Local parts stores have the same quality part for this at a reduced price most of the time. Look in the HELP Parts section or have them look it up if you need a new switch.
It will take a couple of hours to replace if you get it right the first or second time.
When I replaced my steering wheel I fixed my switch. It had one of the ears busted off for left turn and would not hold the blinker arm. Now it works perfectly and cancels as it should as well. This can be a project but, nice when it's all done.
Try a new flasher. I haven't bought one for many years but shouldn't cost more than a few bucks and it is alot cheaper than an new turn signal switch. If that doesn't cure it, keep the old one as a spare, you will need a new one sooner or later anyway. Do the lights turn on but just don't blink?? Do they blink on one side but not the other??
When removing a T/S switch from the column, tie the wires together with string. Have enough string that it hangs out from the column at the bottom. That way you can tie the string to the new switch, and by pulling the string from the bottom of the column, the new switch will feed down without problems. Make sure to mark the plastic connector with what wires plug to where.
You can snip the wires from the switch leaving about 3 inches of wires remaining in the connector..then..do the string trick. Then you can splice the new switch wires in by using wire connectors.
