I've got an 05 V10 that is surging badly on idle. It has gotten much worse recently. If I am stopped at a light the engine will surge 3 to 4 times in a matter of 2 min.
Maybe an air leak not getting metered by the MAFS. Check the top of your engine for an EGR coming from the right side that is known for leaking at its 90 degree bend.
O2 sensor maybe, does it seem to surge into a low power state and then back to normal power? A bad 02 sensor will trigger a rich mode or normal mode and that can cause a surgeing type effect. I am just guessing, my '89 ranger did the same thing and it turned out to be an 02 sensor.....BUT! a '05 V10 and the '89 v6 that was in my ranger are totally different but I can imagine the 02 sensors have not changed much in the theory of operation.
You can always use a belt sander or an angle grinder to fix the problem with the idle... but my bets gonna be on an o2 sensor or your MAF sensor could be fouled. Never rule out the stinger rocket launcher... it will successfully relocate your engine mis-idle.
look for vaccume leak or intake leak, you can rule out plugs or 02 sensors.
02 sensors are makeing it surge due to the info from exaust , rich or lean due to vaccume leak.
