I've had 2 leer toppers including one Browning addition. The latching mechanisms are junk in my opinion and need constant attention. I also have a friend with a leer on his SD and he is experiencing the same thing along with leaking window seals. I put an ARE Z series on my 06 and love it. I've got the sliding tilt front window, yakima roof racks, remote lock and unlock that works with my Ford remote. I did alot of research and ARE is the tops in quality. Highly recommend
Here is my two cents. I have a Century on Mine and i love it. It is almost 1 1/2 years old and it looks and works like new. No problems with locking mechanisms, shocks, windows, or anything. I would highly recommend it. I'd show a photo, but ACE stole my thunder with his picture!
Check my gallery. I have a Jason Cap and love it. No problems whatsoever. Good for keeping things safe, like a bottle of NOS. I got the carpeted interior option as well so fit and finish is excellent.
Again Thanks for everybody posting commits and pics, has been a great help.
Ordered an A. R. E. CX model today with the rear walk-in door and full carpet kit plus bed-rug.
Will try and post some pics when it is all installed. I'm hoping it looks as good as some of your alls.
Thanks again.
Sorry for the late response. It was painted from the factory that way. When you order you give them your paint code/vin. I actually purchased it as a "factory second". The paint is messed on on an edge so it was quite a bit less than if I'd ordered it direct.

I believe Ford beds tapper in on the back of the bed a tad, so when I mount my cap, I have to have someone push in on each side while I tighten. Not sure if you can get a tappered cap?

yes, they do tapper. I found this out as I was searching for a used top. If you push the sides in and then tighten it down you may have a problem with the door closing. I wanted to order a new one that would fit perfectly but they are $1000.00 plus tax. I found a used one, and I have $220.00 in it. Thats including painted to match the truck. The rear corners hang over the sides about an inch. I can live with that. $220 is much better than $1000.
I have a nice one I found on ebay for $400.00. Had to drive two hours to pick it up. It came with an unused carpet kit.I Tore the carpet off of the plywood. The mud,blood,ducks,deer,dogs-etc. would have trashed it anyways.Works good for storage.I only have the shell on in the winter.
There is no way I would pay the kind of scratch the retailers want. Deals are out there-just takes some research. I also found one on craigslist for my 93'.
A small dealer near me has a rack of shells in
the back. when he gets a truck in with a shell,he removes it.He says the trucks sell better without them. He sells the toppers seperately.
Might want to check some places that sell "custom" trucks.
I think I have a pic in my profile
