Get Outta' My Way !!!!

All right, Haroutd! You wanna play tag? Think it's fun? How 'bout I run my 7 axle dump truck & pup up on YOUR bumper? Then we'll see how your pickup stacks up against #95,000 of smoke blowin', diesel drinking, OUTTA MY WAY FOUR WHEELER REAL MANS TRUCK!!!
You may think you're a 'safe driver' but people like you who gotta drive SO much faster than everybody else are the cause of a whole lotta death and destruction on the highway! And I know. I've run 18 wheelers border to border, coast to coast. And I've lost friends to 'safe drivers' just like you! Maybe you oughta slow down and let some little kids mom or dad make it home alive.
Yeah, I'm ranting. And, NO I don't apologize.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

If I see you coming up behind me at 20 mph over the limit , I'm going to get out of your way. Not out of courtesy but because I don't want to be near such an unsafe driver.

Why is it ok for you to put everyone's safety on the line just because you are in a hurry, or just like to drive fast? That is the most inconsiderate thing to do. My life is worth more than your time, in my humble opinion.

One last comment, there is statistical evidence that people who OBSTRUCT the flow of traffic at whatever speed are often the cause of unsafe driving and accidents. It isn't the group of traffic going above the limit that is the problem, it is the people who camp in a lane and won't move or speed up that can cause trouble. People will panic stop, pass unsafely, tailgate, be rude etc. Why block the lane and cause all these problems. Get outta the way and let the speeders go by, safely.

I once long ago did an experiment on I 5 in the San Joaquin valley. The limit was 55, but as anyone who has driven there knows, almost everyone goes 65 and up, even when posted for 55. I lawfully drove 55 in the right lane. There were cars stacked up behind me. I had tons of irate drivers flip me off. One even passed me on the shoulder. The moral of that story for me was, go with the flow, DO NOT OBSTRUCT traffic.

I don't speed(go a lot faster than the flow), but I do go with the flow and I get out of the way if someone is coming up. It is the difference in speed and lack of attention that causes the biggest problems. Besides I like speeders to sweep the cops from out in front of me.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

sorry but when slower vehicles are supposed to move to the left then you should never have to pass unless it is to the right because you are going around the slower traffic. so eventually there is a fast lane -all the way to the left! I agree, move the Word edited out By administration out of my way.
by the way you shouldn't be doing 55mph on the freeway unless you are towing or have a piece of This one Too because if you are just because you feel like it you dissrupting the flow of traffic which you can be ticketed for.

So do you feel that it's your right to speed and jeopardize everyone else's life? Maybe I'm a little sensitive to this matter, because I lost a loved one to a speeder a few years ago. Go ahead have fun, live your life your way. But that loved one of mine DOES NOT GET TO LIVE LIFE AT ALL because of a speeder. Would you be able to live with yourself if you killed someone? I wouldn't.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

I live in Hartford Conn. and anyone who lives in this area and drives at rush hour knows, this highway has curves and you need to do eighty to keep "ahead of the mess" in my opinion. I get in more trouble when I'm the slow vehicle because there are more cars around me. Plus the left hand, right hand and head on exits screw ya up because someone always has to change lanes at the last second because they disigned the roads so ignoarantly. I don't blame people for cutting me off at times, it can be necessary. I'd hate to have to get off at the wrong exit just because i couldn't get over. Here's my philosophy, pay attention to the guy to the right of you, if he looks like he's tailgating he's probably going to want to change lanes, so to avoid getting cut off or run into when you're in his blind spot slow down, when you see somebody turn on their blinker, don't try and pass them slow down, they might not see you. Let big trucks over, as there are enough ***** on the road who won't let them change lanes, and if you're coming up on an area where people are going to be merging, slow down or move over so they can.

There was one instance i can think of where the right lane ended, and it was bumper to bumper traffic and no one behind me would let this big truck over, they just kept cutting him off. So i stopped (in front of everyone else, stuck my hand out the window and waved this guy forward, he passed about 5 cars and i think i ticked everyone off. lol he thanked me. I appreciate truckers, and respect that they can't move as fast as me.)

I was in my home state of florida driving down 95 in the central florida area, below melbourne, and me and some other people were cruising in the left lane, hardly anyone on the roads as most people from this area can attest at this time of day, it's a nice strait strip of highway, and the speed limit is 70. This jerk wanted to go slower than this semi, in the left lane while the guy next to him did the exact same speed. I saw the semi turn on his high beams in broad daylight to try and get the guy's attention. Took him about 4 miles to finally move over lol.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

Near Dallas last week there was a tragic accident (I'm using the term accident very loosely) when a brand new Crew Cab GMC 3/4 ton pickup failed to "get outta" the way of a flatbed semi hauling 76K pounds of poured concrete retaining walls. An eleven year old girl was killed and three other members of her family were injured. The cause of the accident has been attributed to excessive speed in a construction zone and driver inattention (the driver of the eighteen wheeler). Sadly, the family in the GMC had the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The GMC was smashed beyond recognition and it took about four hours to cut all the victims out of what was left of the truck.

I'm as guilty as the next guy about trying to enforce the traffic laws myself (driving in the left lane and not yielding to faster moving traffic or tailgating to force the car in front to move over). I haven't been shy about using these tactics with eighteen wheelers over the years, but this case really turned my head around. While this accident was clearly not a case of the GMC driver trying to enforce traffic laws, it proves that in eighteen wheeler/car/pickup accidents, the eighteen wheeler is always going to win.

I'm working on curbing my aggressive driving habits; perhaps one person won't make a difference, but maybe I can influence others (like my sons) to try.

Be careful out there!

John

Was that truck driver in an American rig or was it one of those Nafta-wrecks from Mexico that Clinton let in?

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

I met someone the other day who freaking stopped on an accsess ramp causing me to have to stop an 8000lb suburban from 50 in about few seconds, I was pretty close when I stopped. They immedeatly took off, and so did I, after a few seconds they slammed on the brakes and put the car in park, before I had even stopped skidding towards them, I ended up a few inches from them with the front end bouncing madly up and down. I was thinking, should I back up and go around, or get out and kick some , luckily for them they noticed that they were not hit and left. These people make me angry, and I'm glad I wasn't in my pride and joy or there would have been a terrible mess to clean up.

So has anyone noticed that on the oklahoman back highways all the vehicles smoke and go about 30mph, then in town receede to a speed so low the speedometer does not register it? That hacks me off. These people don't understand why Texas has an inspection either. But don't worry, I don't tailgate them, I can't breath that close to them.

While I'm not one to be a slow poke in the fast lane, I can say for sure, I don't tolerate tailgaters. I also drive an F250 SD, but sometimes I ride a Harley, and sometimes I drive my Corvette.
Hope you're givin a little room in there before these slow-pokes move over; never know if they're just stupid, or what, but they deserve no tailgating.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Nov-02 AT 00:53 AM (EST)]"speed and jeopardize everyone else"

Other people's speed isn't what jeopardizes people who drive on public roads - look at the statistics: getting near your own vehicle is what jeopardized you. Most wrecks occur within a mile of your own home - how many people live within a (driving not flying) mile of a 65mph zone? Think about it carefully, and you'll realize that it's a VERY small percentage of the population.

"put everyone's safety on the line just because you are in a hurry, or just like to drive fast"

Everyone who drives on public roads put THEIR OWN safety on the line, whether they EVER encounter a speeder or not.

"people like you who gotta drive SO much faster than everybody else are the cause of a whole lotta death and destruction on the highway"

So are people who gotta drive SO much SLOWER.

"It's not like you're actually going to hit their car or anything"

Yeah, it is like that. Remember the post about braking distance?

"as long as they are doing the speed limit they have every right to be in that lane"

No, there are a LOT of other laws governing the operation of motor vehicles besides just obeying the speed limit. Some of them are: impeding the flow of traffic; traffic obstruction; reckless operation; DUI; MVI; safety equipment; improper lane usage...

"i may not like going 65 but it is the law and its the law for a reason SAFETY"

So does that mean that states with 75mph speed limits are unsafe? What about states with no daytime speed limit? Then why are there so fewer collisions in Germany on the Autobahn? Making morons drive slowly doesn't make them safe or smart. It just keeps them alive long enough to reproduce.

"he is the dangerous one not me"

Yeah - that's what "HE" said.

"When you doing 85 in a 65 and some moron cuts you off at 45 or there is a stalled car in your lane and you suddenly realize that you're out of time, out of options and out of talent. Now you're in a 6000# out of control missle."

But the same is true if you were doing 65 in a 65 zone, or even 55. If you're paying so little attention that you get yourself into that situation, you shouldn't even be behind the wheel - it doesn't make any difference if you're doing the speed limit or under.

Get Outta' My Way !!!!

Just to pour gas on the fire
Now that I am liscenced to drive in Korea I am finding therare pretty much no traffic laws that are followed. In the drivers handbook it even states that a red light is a RECCOMENDATION to stop not a REQUIREMENT. However in the month I have been driving here I have witnessed only one accident. This is probably attributed to the fact the Koreans believe it is your MORAL RESPONSIBILITY To not cause an accident and that road rage will get you life in prison.
