i got a 65 stepside from az and the vin is nowhere to be found.bmv can,t find it so i gotta pay 50 clams to have the highway patrol inspect it.can,t find a stamp on the frame rail or anything..the lady at the patrol said they know all the secret places it could be..is that why they get 50 bucks.cause they know and we don,t?
It is there.
You have to look on the passenger frame rail, about where the alternator is.
Use a wire brush to clean it up to bare steel - do NOT use a grinder! The inner fender often drapes over it, so you need to push it out of the way.
It is there, but can be very hard to see as it isn't stamped very deeply.
found it..thanks a lot....may have saved me 50 bucks..would not have seen it if i hadn,t wire brushed 42 years of dirt off...i owe you lunch..i was looking farther back..so cool..dave
