Hello, my name is Billy and yes I'm a newbie around here. Been doing alot of reading on the sight in the last week or so doing a little research. I am going to order a new truck this week and I have a question.
Truck will be a F250 4x4 cc, Lb, V-10, 4.10Ls my question is I was thinking about getting the 20 inch rims and was woundering how the 20's will effect torge and mpg or would I be better off with 18's. I don't pull that much wieght anymore mostly a 20 ft bass boat and a 16 ft trailer to the deer lease.
Oh, by the way trading in a 04 6.0 psd for a BSEG, not going to miss the
15 qt oil changes
$20.00 oil filter
$75.00 air filter
$65.00 fuel filter
Along with all the trips back to the dealer for reflashes,"I'll stop there" anyway all input is welcome.
I would also look at which wheel size offers the most choices in suitable, replacement rubber. That may sway your decision more than torque/mpg. The 20's sure look nice, though! I think the tire sizes put on both make the effective final drive ratio almost identical. I'll have to check.
You should always get the deepest gears, especially when the choices are between 4.10 or 4.30 and even more so since you are ordering. You never know what you want to do down the road and it is better to have more than you need. The 4.30's certainly won't hit the MPG figures any more.
Welcome to the best V10 forum on the planet!
ON EDIT: The 275/70-18 are 33.2" the 276/65-20 are 34.1" Get the 4.30's no matter what wheel choice.
A lot depends on what your desires for in terms of replacement tires, looks, and ride quality.... I don't think the rear differential will be an issue with either size as the factory tire fitments will be very close to the same overall diameter no matter 17, 18, or 20 inch rim
The tire side walls on the 18 in rims will be taller then on the 20 inchers for same diameter tires.... this should translate into a slightly softer ride quality with the smaller rims
But to tell the truth I have driven both and can NOT tell the difference
I have the 18s and I am NOT impressed with the costs or selection of replacement tires
A year back, ,when I searched for new tires, I was thinking I might replace the rims as well as new tires....unfortunatley the selection was even less deep for 20 inch tire choices...
If it were mine, I would option in the 4.30 rear gears for the wider flexibility on lifts and larger tire choices--- and I would go with the 18 inch rims for the added side wall height and theoretically softer ride quality
I agree V10man with the 265's and 4.30's. Since switching from the 3.73's to the 4.30's the performance towing the 12.5K 5th is great. I was thinking of going to larger rims but will stay with the 265x70r17.
Ok sounds like I should go with the 4.30's. I guess that there is not that much difference in 4.10's to 4.30's to really add that much rpm's to really effect mpg all that much. But I think I will have to make my final decision on either the 18 or 20 in wheels at the dealer before I sit down, those 20s sure look good.
