... their own failure to plan and inability to keep their plants running is making them RICH. It seem to me like there would be very little incentive for them to fix their plants if they are posting 300% profits....
Personally, I don't think that that there are any problems… The bas**rds keep raising the price because they have figured out we will pay it… And what other choice do we have? To not commute to work? To not travel to school? We HAVE to get where we’re going and they don’t care how much it costs us to get there! Not their problem!
The BP refinery in Whiting Indiana just outside of chicago is having some serious problems with equipment and they are really afraid of the midwest running out of gas. This is coming from a guy that works at the plant. This is why we are seeing extraordinarilly high prices near chicago now.
My excursion has been parked for a couple weeks now. 30MPG in my 99 camaro SS for now.
What i want to know is where is bush in all of this? This is quickly turning into a national crisis if it isnt already. The companies are seemingly purposely letting equipment fail and not fixing them im a timely manner as they are posting higher and higher profits. Exxon just coming of posting record profits that are just mind blowing. You know bush will not do anything to hurt big oil though,m he would be shooting himself in the foot. He is gonna run this country as hard into the ground as he can and make every dollar he can off of us before he is finally pulled out of office. Worst president in this countries history BY FAR!
I don't usually get into the political debates, however, I think we will see a big change when he gets out of the office. A president that will hold the petroleum companies accountable to how they are making their profits might make them think twice.
There was an article last week talking about Walmart and how their sales decreased in the last quarter (for the first time in 30 years- if i remember correctly). The financial analyst are saying that their decline in sales is as a direct result of the $.50 increase per gallon of fuel in the last quarter alone. I would love to see these businesses get into it.
The high cost of fuel causes a chain reaction! People just won't be going on vacation this year and if they do, they will spend less or go into debt to enjoy themselves. The problem with going into debt during summer vacation is that school is just around the corner and then the Holidays not far after! Somewhere someone is going to lose sales.
It is also typical of large companies like BP to throw out scares to get the commodities market all worked up. This happened a few weeks ago after the United States arrested 100 or so terrorists, the commodities market went running scared stating they were afraid other terrorists would attack oil fields thus creating a shortage, raising the price!
Big media also has their hand in oil somehow! I have yet to hear a complete explaination of how oil prices are set, whether it is commodities market alone or a mix of commodities and oil companies simply going along with the commodity price. All I hear is a alot of blaming here and there. There is no reason why Mobil and others couldn't sell their fuel for a few cents over cost, especialy after record profits even after Katrina and other large storms!

what is bush going to do.. you guys want a quick solution for a long drawn out problem. nothing is going to change anytime soon. i see this turning into another diesal vs. gas thread real quick. where were you at when diesal was higher than gas in the winter.. we'll be right back there in a few months live it up while you can!
The companies are PURPOSELY neglecting equipment and failing to repair it in a timely manner, then using this as an excuse for skyrocketing gas prices. Crippling this country. In my opinion it is time for government to step in, actually they should have a few years ago. Oh wait pres. oil barron was still in office then too....
Record setting income and equipment falling apart all over the country does not add up. Unless they are making more $ by it breaking down. Which is EXACTLY what is going on.
