What to do with a Lincoln Engine
Just stopping by, usually hang out at the '48-60 truck forum. I've a '54 F100 that I'd like to put an '89 Lincoln Town Car engine (with 82,000 miles) and trans in. Looking for information on the engine and suggestions how to put some zip in it. Not sure what size it is- 5.0L? Any suggestions for mods appreciated
We're all pretty much old school around here, brother
. The 5.0 has got lots of potential. Not much for torque, but they're not bad for horses in the mid-to-upper rpm's. Really depends on your budget. I like the C4 behind the 302, it's light, small, and reliable, but again your choices are just about endless for trannies. I guess the usual questions apply here:
Daily driver- maybe see the occasional trip to the strip?
Is fuel mileage a concern? Are you or can you get the OD tranny with the motor?
Budget? How would you rate your mechanic abilty? Got a good machine shop close by?
It really boils down to what you're going to use the truck for. A few specifics, and we can narrow down the options. As I always say:
If it's cheap and reliable, it ain't fast.
If it's cheap and fast, it ain't reliable.
If it's fast and reliable, it ain't cheap.
There are guys in here that have built the 302 from mild to wild, so there's plenty of help. There are also a ton of threads about this, just do a search. Be prepared for the "forget the 302 and build a 351" naysayers, but there is a valid argument for the 351, especially in a heavier vehicle. But it is what it is, eh?
