Monday Sucked.... (rant)
Criminy, what a day.
As some of you may recall, I've been with a company in Grandview for about a year and a half now. My operation was new to them, so there is still a fair bit of confusion about what exactly I do.
My job description per date of hire was kind of a mixed bag. I was the senior installation tech, troubleshooting engineer, first operator, trainer, maintenance, shipping and receiving, material handler, supervisor, janitor, manager, department head and chief cook/bottle washer for lack of better terms.
Allow me to clarify a piece of the above....while I am my own maintenance department, I am to go to the corporate maintenance division when I need assisstance. Frankly, they've been a bit too helpful.
Somewhere in March, I inadvertanly ticked off the head of Maintenance. Mostly because I had a machine failure that I diagnosed, removed the trashed gear, drove my car to purchase a replacement gear, installed said gear and effectively repaired my own machine in less than two and a half hours. He was quick to point out that was his job and that I should have let him do it.
The reasons I didn't were numerous and probably obvious to any one other than a blind bat. The lost time kills me. I simply cannot afford days or weeks of down time waiting on him to "get around to it", so I generally continue to do my own maintenance and repair work when I can.
We went around again today. I had a problem last Wednesday that I couldn't identify. Among other things, the head of maintenance went through 6 electrical panels looking for loose connections or wiring issues. I worked on the issue half of Wednesday, and all of Thursday and Friday. Eventually, I called the manufacturer of the equipment in Finland and we set up a conference call and a diagnostic scan for this morning at 8 am.
In 12 minutes, the manufacturer informed me that the plc was not getting supply voltage necessary for four DC motors, and that the problem had to be wiring, and could I please go re check certain connections.
First one I checked, I was able to tighten 3/4's of a turn.
After checking and tightening 40odd connections, I turned the machine on and it worked perfectly.
Of course, maintenance is certain that they tightened those connections and they must have vibrated lose over the last few days. Never mind that the machine has NOT been running since they supposedly went through said panel.
I'm a bit frustrated.
I think maybe I'll take a brick to work tommorow.

Have been through that lately myself. I'm a mechanic for a truck tire (18 wheeler) dealer. I do mostly 3 axle alignments, and have a salesman (we mutually don't like each other) complain that I was doing a customers alignment and he thought that another's should have come first.
The alignment I was doing was waiting, the other was a drop off I had all day. And they were both his accounts. And ther were completed, and both happy.
