401 Code on a 1998 F150

401 Code on a 1998 F150
The truck started to run funny with a lack of power with some lurches as you drive. We changed the fuel filter but it still lurches but not all the time. I lloked on the invoice and they say there is an engine light on with a code 401. Could that be causing the lurch? If not, what could it be?

i would check the dpfe also.. a p0401 code is low egr flow detected. the easiest way to check the egr is to start the truck and apply vacuum to the valve.. if the idle drops and the truck wants to die i would chase after the dpfe
