we are working on a 78 bronco. it had a 351m with a automatic trans. (engine bad). we are buying a 78 with a 351c with a auto trans. will this engine and trans interchange? is this the same block? can i just change engine(our engine is already pulled).
Measure across the top 2 bell bolts, if they measure out to 7 7/8" or so, then you have a 351M. This is also the size for 400's and big blocks. It is possible that the engine was swapped to a "C", or you might have a "W" in the 351 variety. Not sure on the measurement for these across the bell, but it will be smaller. I'd say see what you have bell wise and go from there. Hope this helps!
