Well yesterday I was changing my oil and my oil filter was covered in soot. Upon some looking around I found that there is a leak in the exhaust manifold at the rear and I was blowing exhaust out. So I fixed that and also fixed my EGT probe which for some reason wasn't working.
Now for the problem, I have now noticed that my boost is down about 3 or 4 lbs from normal, usually I would see 28 max on the 120 tune and about 24-26 on the 80 econo. My egts are climbing very fast I can hit 1200 in my 80 econo tune by the time I hit 65mph under full throttle but cruising I'm fine it stays right at 600.
So I don't know where the best place to start would be, I checked for boost leaks, I didn't find any as of yet but didn't use a leak detector. What do you guys think could be going on or am I just being paranoid?
There were two manifold bolts just a little loose so I tightened the two up that were loose and as far as I can tell for now there is nothing getting by now.
The leak repair could account for the increase in the EGT's. Can't imagine what any of that would have to do with loosing boost numbers. Did you replace your probe? Do you think that may have caused your EGT's to increase?
Yeah I replaced my probe. Thats the funny thing I don't know if I was just paying more attention to the boost gauge or what but noticed the reduction in boost after messing the the probe and the exhaust leak. I am kind of hoping there is a correlation between the two and I can get it straightened out pretty quick. I have heard once that a guy had an egt probe/sending unit that way off in actual temp numbers but I never saw mine climb that fast before, it actually kind of scared me at first! It does come right down if I let off the throttle almost as fast as it goes up. Maybe I'm just being paranoid but I don't like seeing 1200+ numbers even if it only is for a second.
Yeah I am almost positive the gauge is working correctly now, but still a little worried about the temps I am getting. I am going to try to check again for boost leaks this weekend and hopefully get something figured out.
