Door unlocks

Am I missing something or do just the two front doors unlock when putting the truck in Park? I'd like for all four to unlock and be able to open both from the inside and outside.

I have an 04 crew cab and the doors lock after you reach about 5-10mph, but I was wondering if there is a way to program the truck so that it will unlock all of the doors when you put it in park? Currently, none of the doors unlock when you put it in park. Also, I bought the truck used and don,t have a manual. Thanks.

It's a Ford, they don't have to unlock to get out. Pull the handle and the door will open. Fords have unlocked and opened from the inside for as far back as I can remember.

My 04 doesn't unlock by just pulling the handle--never has. I'd like someone to show me that trick.

You can download a manual at the following Ford web site in pdf format.

Are you sure? I also have an 04 an if the door is locked and you pull the handle "inside" that door will unlock and open. it's a manual unlock of that door only. And i agree Ford had done this for as long as i can remember on all of their vehicles.

From an '06 manual . . .

Autolock (if equipped)

conditions are met:
the ignition key is in the 4 (ON) position,

all the doors are closed,

the brake is pressed before reaching 5 mph (8 km/h), and

the vehicle is traveling more than 5 mph (8 km/h).

Relock
The autolock feature repeats when the following conditions are met:
the vehicle’s speed is less than 5 mph (8 km/h),

any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the 4 (ON)

position,

the brake is pressed before reaching 5 mph (8 km/h), and

the vehicle is traveling more than 5 mph (8 km/h).

To deactivate/reactivate the autolock feature using the keypad
Your vehicle comes with the autolock feature activated. To

deactivate/reactivate this feature:

1. Ensure that the anti-theft system is not armed.

2. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position.

You can either have them Automaticly lock or not lock, but if you have them lock when you put it in park they will not automaticly unlock the doors (I programmed my along time ago but I do not think even the front doors unlocked automaticly) so at the very lease the rear doors will not unlock.

The Front doors will unlock when you pull the inside door handle. The Rear doors on a Crew Cab will NOT Unlock when you pull the door handle. This is a child safety feature, and if you want to disable the rear inside door handles completely look on the edge of the rear doors when open and there is a child safety lock that when engaged prevents the interior rear door handles from functioning at all.

Hope this helps

Yeah, these guys are right. Both front doors will unlock when you open the inside handle, back doors will not. That's pretty much why Ford doesnt use an auto unlock feature. They have been doing that forever. I bet that the original theory behind it way back when was a child safety issue and that was at a time when nobody really thought about it seriously. The only time the SD will automatically unlock the door is if you get out and try to lock it with the key in the ignition, so you dont accidentally lock your keys in it.

I wonder what the difference is. My 04 automatically locks (I would disable it but my wife likes the feature) but it doesn't automatically unlock nor does it unlock when I pull the inside handle. You have to unlock it with the switch or pull up the ****. I wonder if it's supposed to as a safety feature and mine just doesn't work.

On edit: Mine is an 04 crewcab with electric windows and locks and it will unlock if you try to lock and close the door with the truck running or keys in it. You can manually lock it with the keypad with the truck running though.

Have you had any work done inside your doors? If it says FORD on the the steering wheel you should be able to pull the handle and exit the vehicle from the front seats. I had my doors apart 2 weeks ago to replace a door ajar switch and there is only 1 linkage between the inside handle and the door latch of all 4 doors. The front doors have a peg on the power lock body that is moved by the inside door linkage to unlock the door. This may have slipped out of place on your truck. Try your passenger's door and see if it unlocks from the inside.

npccpartsman,

All of them Auto Lock as a defalt from FMC. I have never had mine Auto Un-lock.

As far as pulling the front door handles and the door unlocking, both my 04 & 06 do it just as i posted earlier.

Maybe you got the "Special Truck"

The doors have never been apart and it has never unlocked by pulling the inside door handle since new, but I bet when it gets home this weekend it'll be apart to see what's up for sure. Actually, neither one of my front doors unlocks from the inside by just pulling the handle. I wonder what's up with that. Anyone have a schematic of the front mechanism so I can compare? Any help is always much appreciated.
