What does "free wheelin" mean? I've never seen another painted like it. Never seen another bronco that didn't have the moulding (stock) either.
Used to hate it... kinda grown on me. Has a bit of metallic in it too, so when it's buffed it looks pert good.
I think I still have the paint mix from the auto shop that repaired the quarter panel, if anybody's interested.
Took em 3 days and about 20 different trys to match the paint. The mix in their books was WAY off and the computerized scanner couldn't do it either. They had to get an "old hat" to come in and do it by hand.
How can it be "Explorer" Striping when it's a "Custom". Are these not mutually excluve? or should Ford have picked a better name for a paint scheme so as not to confuse?

I am presently printing up the striping designs.
When I said explorer striping I didn't mean an Explorer bronco..I meant they put some of the Explorer striping on a bronco.
Once you see what I post for striping kits it will be clearer what I mean.
1978 Free Wheeling Broncos only had the upper tape striping. The pickups got the full body length striping on the lower but no upper striping. 1978 striping also was complete separate colors (rows of colors...).
1979 Free Wheeling Bronco got the lower tape striping (along with the upper striping...) as an extra option that only existed with the red/orange striping scheme. Red to orange was smoothly blended from red to orange on Broncos. Broncos also got the striping on the tailgate. The other colors were upper only and are rows of separate colors. 1979 pickups had both lower full body striping and upper striping similar to 1979 Broncos. With the same red/orange scheme, it was separate rows of colors just like the 1978's.
EDIT: If a 1/2 ton Flareside was selected with the Free Wheeling option, you only got pinstriping that covered the whole sides.

Back to the color of paint for your truck... I've seen a couple of silver ones that look pretty bad a$$. A guy I work with has a 76 that is red with black trim looks pretty good if you want to stick with one of your 3 colors. O.K. continue your striping discusion now.
Only one little thing... The tailgate is original, but doesn't have the pinstriping. Hasn't been repainted either.
The tailgate striping was only available with the full Free Wheeling striping, upper and lower striping. Yours only have the upper striping, so the tailgate didn't receive the striping.
I wish I had a scanner, so I'd scan the pics I have of my old Free Wheeling Bronco.
