While towing a 29ft 5th wheel, and while the engine is under heavy load (going uphill/mountain), or while pedel to the floor board while going through the gears to get up to speed to pull into the Intersate I get a clatter sound from under the hood when shifting from 3rd into 4th. When I take my foot off the pedal the clatter goes away. The truck has 100,000 miles, and I've never experienced this noise previously while pulling the 5 th wheel. When not towing, and going uphill or going through the gears to pick up speed I do not hear any clattering. When I first heard the clatter it was not very loud, but it is getting louder, and I'm getting worried this may be something serious. Has anybody experienced anything similar, and if so...what was causing the clatter.
Sorry to hear about your problem but you will need to post it in the tech forums. Just click on the Forums tab at the upper left and scroll over the choices (lots of help in them). You can post in the forum for your year of truck as well as the towing forum.
