I've just added an aftermarket tach to my '90 E150 with a 4.9l/C6 .
Can anybody tell me where the redline should be? I think I've read 5200RPM somewhere, but would like to confirm that!
Peak HP is probably about 3400. I never take my carb'd '85 past 3500, as it's just noise and vibration above that. You won't spit any parts out at 4000, so run it up to 4000 and listen to it and feel if it's still pulling as strong as it pulls between 2500-3000. My guess is it's flat as a pancake after 3500. Thus, no need to rev it further.
On edit, noting you are automatic, see what revs it shifts at when you hold wot. They shift well under redline in most cases, but I think you will see this is not an engine where overrev is a place you want to go.
