A big Clunk!
A friend has an '82 Bronco w/302. Sometimes at stoplights he will have this loud clunking sound when accelerating as soon he takes off (easy take off) and it feels like the rearend drops about an inch... He has checked for "slop" in all mounting brackets, etc... But, no luck in figuring out the problem... Any suggestions? He also has the NP203 transfer case...
Thanks,
Rick

Rick,
Have you checked the drive shaft. Sounds like the u-joint is bad. Try moving the drive shaft side to side to check for movement.

You need to grease the slipyoke on your driveshaft. If it has no grease fitting then you will have to take the rear yoke loose from the differential and remove the rubber boot to grease the slipyoke.Essentially you are taking your driveshaft apart at the slipyoke.

When you re-install the drive shaft, be sure to align the slip joint exactly like it was. They are timed and if your u-joints are not in synch you will most likely have a vibration.
