clunk!

every time i hit my brakes really hard, when the truck stops leaning forward and sits back down i hear a clunk come from under the truck some where! it is driving me nuts. i thought it was something to do with my track bar bushings, but i now have new ones and it still happens!!! does anyone out there with a 78-79 ever have this problem? could it be my sway bars?

Does the truck do the same thing when you start off again? I only aske because I had a similar situation but it did it both on stops and starts. Was a bad raduis arm bushing. (stud was rocking up and down in the bracket because the bushing was almost completely worn away) Other than that, set the parking brake and start at the front looking for anything that moves more than it should when you tug on it.

clunk!

This is a common problem on 78/79's
I too had this disease until a injected some wheel bearing grease inside the female spline on the front of the driveshaft where it goes on the tranny.

End of clunk.

Wait a minute......d0 you think it could b e axle wrap from worn spings???...or maybe you have a broken U-Bolt on the rear end....possible even the end links have come loose on your sway bar(s)take'em off you dont need them anyway and you'll get more suspension travel...are your U-Joints in good shape. In other words what I am trying to say is.It could be one or more of several reasons.Start with the eaisest to check and work towards the nastiest of thing to repair. And do a thourough inspection or you suspension and drive train.

so i can take my sway bar off and i will have no trouble driving it? i just replaced my track bar bushings and it steers much better. i think it might be my brakes. i am not for sure just yet, but i plan on doing them in the next few days when i get some money. but i am pretty sure it is cause of my brakes being so bad. but i will check everything else. now if it would just stop raining long enough for me to work on it.
